The Military WAGS Choir (Catterick Garrison) is pleased to announce that some of its ladies joined members of nine other Military Wives Choirs from across the country at Abbey Road Studios in London recently to record Sing, the Commonwealth song written by Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Gary Barlow for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The massed choir was rehearsed and conducted by Gareth Malone. Also on the recording are representatives from across the Commonwealth who were selected by Gary Barlow on his recent trip, which will be documented in On Her Majesty’s Service to be shown on the BBC.
The choir is extremely proud of its involvement in the song, and especially that one of the members, Rebecca Marshall (a serving Army Officer), was selected by Gary Barlow, Gareth Malone and Andrew Lloyd Webber to sing a solo on the recording. Talking about the experience, Rebecca said:
“I’m extremely excited to be collaborating with Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Gary Barlow and Gareth Malone on the project to mark Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee and I am humbled yet elated at being chosen as a soloist. I feel completely rejuvenated from having music back in my life once more and cannot wait to perform at the Diamond Jubilee Concert in June”.
As a result of their involvement in the recording, the choir’s representatives will be travelling to London again to join artists from across the Commonwealth in singing the song live at the Diamond Jubilee Concert being produced by Gary Barlow on 4th June 2012. The whole of the choir has been extremely supportive of the ladies involved and is looking forward to being able to perform Sing in the future as a group.
Sing will be released on 28th May 2012 and will also feature on a special on a commemorative Jubilee album by Gary Barlow, which includes appearances from Hayley Westenra, Laura Wright and Alfie Boe. The Album is already available for pre-order from major music retailers.
The choir will also be performing at the following events in the coming months:
